A pretty new outfit

I've been a bit lost recently and had lots of ideas but no motivation to get the sewing machine out. Its very unusual and I think it might be an illness but I'm back on the mend and decided to make an out fit for one of the angels. I researched lots of blogs and was very inspired and this is what I came up with.

I think the smiling is saying look what my Mummy made me.
The outfit came out of the book Cute clothes for kids by Rob Merrett. The pattern was really easy to follow and there are lots more fabulous items on my to do list. I love the dress fabric it looks so fresh and fun.

My new apron

I have been so busy with life my sewing has taken a back step. I've done a bit of cross stitch but it takes soooooooo long. I've been working on the same piece since my honeymoon in 2010. It'll look lovely when its finished. I met up with Tanya to make some bloomers and was trying to be clever and scale them down to make nappy covers. Unfortunately they are too small and now fit one of the teddies.

I have made an apron. I'm really pleased with it. I used my sisters old shirt and a white sheet.  I'm hoping she doesn't want them back. I used the rolled hem foot(I'm unsure of the technical name) on the strings, I love it and when I was cooking yesterday I kept wiping my hands on my trousers to keep it clean.

I hope everyone has a great time at the FQR2013 I'm looking forward to reading all about it.

My finished Amy Butler Weekender.

Yay I've finished and here are some pictures:

I'm so pleased so here are more photos of the inside.

I made a few changes to the pattern:

  • I put zips on the two outside pockets.
  • I put D rings on the side so that I can attach a strap to hang it over the pushchair.
  • I added an inside zip and key clip (I'm always losing my keys).
This pattern has given me a massive boost in confidence in following a pattern. I love challenging project so that you can learn new skills. My main problem is what to do next? My options are finish two quilts that have been lying around for a couple of years or something new. Any ideas?

Clothes Pegs Genius idea.

I'm still working on the Weekender and I'm so pleased with it. I'm surprised how I'm getting on following a pattern. I had a brain wave as I was searching for ideas on how to hold the bag together and though small bulldog clips would be perfect and I ordered some. I became very excited when they came through, until the package was opened.

But I thought the comparison might make it easier to understand my disappointment.
I then went back on to the net and after lots of reading of tips and ideas I found someone that said use clothes pegs(sorry for not adding the link I don't remember who said it and to be honest I don't know how to). They make it a lot easier to hold it together to get it under my machine.

Just as I was about to sew the other side one of the angels woke up for night cuddles. Yeah.

I think a peg bag could be next on my to do list.

I PUT IN A ZIP AND PIPING.

I didn't quite get the blogging thing until last night I was working on my weekender (working sounds like its a chore and it really isn't) when I accomplished a zip and piping. I skipped to my husband brimming over with pride and by the look on his face he didn't quite get it. So I spoke of my zip faster and with more excitement and used lots of arm waving and still a blank expression.

So to the blogging world. I put in a zip.

 And piping.

I have a fear of zips which is inherited from my Mum she has passed it on and fills me with dread every time the idea comes in to my head. I think a few zippy pouches and hopefully this will be overcome.

Now I have that out of the way. I've been so busy on a Dinosaur quilt and it is now finished and wrapping itself around the birthday boy.

That is not the birthday boy, but my lovely husband, aka the quilt stand.

I still need to work on the photography but it'll come I felt very pleased with myself when I took a photo of the weekender mid project. I'm loving working on the weekender its giving me loads of confidence on following a pattern and this week I will be thinking of little girls clothes, maybe following a pattern.

Dinosaurs

The Weekender has come to a bit of a standstill. I keep reading the instructions but I'm sure it needs a zip to go in next. I need to have a bit of a think about zips before I pluck up the courage and then hopefully wonder what I was worried about. My other plan is to pick a few brains at the EMMQG on 1st June. Here are the panels. I'm very pleased with them.

While I was pondering on the zip(putting it off), a friend of mine had a lot of fabric and a 3rd birthday coming up. With this being her first quilt it could of been put in the cupboard for a long time. The fabric is lovely and I had a vision.

So this became this.

Its coming on lovely but has to go in the cupboard today as I'm off to Thomas Land with a very excited husband.

Oh I do like to be beside the seaside.

Everything seems a bit stop start on this blogging. I have had a fab holiday in Dawlish and recharged a few batteries. The seaside is so inspiring and I have come back with so many ideas to start. Due to the rain everything looked so green, I came back wanting to sew with green. I took a trip to Kisco and came back with red and a vision of a summer dress for Nancy. I might be able to grab a few minutes with a sketch book tomorrow and see what happens. In the meantime I also bought my zipper foot ready to press on with the weekender bag.
